The Jolly Timber Guy was founded by Michael Hilder in 2018 as a hobby, making and selling chopping boards once a month at the Wallan market. fast forward to just a few years later and JTG makes and sells over 5,000 items annually at over 150 market dates, retail orders and a wholesale division. In addition, JTG Garden Maintenance Services manage over a dozen properties in Melbourne.
Michael is a 3rd generation woodworker, following his grandfather Alfred, father Gary and uncle John in the craft of creating beautiful products out of timber. While Michael is based in Melbourne, Gary and John operate woodworking businesses in coastal NSW and products from all 3 can be found at every JTG stall.
JTG uses recycled timber wherever possible or raw timber purchased from the Dandenongs which can be viewed at any time by appointment in our pop up showroom located in Craigieburn.
JTG is a family orientated business with all members playing a part in running the business end to end and is committed to contributing back to the community through donations and involvement in local projects and charities.
In ensuring that our family heritage lives and breathes through our products, Michael still uses several very old tools handed down from his grandfather and father, to make the first mark and cut on timber being turned into the beautiful products purchased by our many customers. This is our way of paying homage to those in our family who taught Michael the very skills he uses on a daily basis and is now teaching the next generation to continue The Jolly Timber Guy story for many years to come...
